OUR ENTRY POINT !!! Measuring our Pulse
For our Entry Point we had 3 rotations, based on different types of exercise. For Miss Joh's rotation we explored the effect that running and aerobic exercise has on our body. In particular we were looking at what happens to our heart rate, when we exercise.
For this experiment we used Fitness Monitors, to measure our heart rate and changes in our body. Technology now means we can monitor the effects of exercise on our body, more easily and accurately. Thank you to those parents who learnt their fitbits for this exercise.
Of course, as we all know, as great as technology is, is sometimes does not work, and therefore children were shown the 'old school', way of calculating their pulse. (finding the pulse, counting for 30 seconds and 2x)
Importantly, this exercise made us think about why the body makes these changes. Some great ideas we already had were:
The body needs more blood to get to the brain
The body needs more blood to go to the lungs to help us breathe.
The body needs to pump more blood to get oxygen to our muscles.
This is what we will be learning about over the coming weeks.
