All P5 pupils cooperatively re-enacted the interaction between the cocoa farmers, companies, supermarkets and consumers. The target was to develop a better understanding of the producing, buying and selling that takes place and how it can affect all stakeholders involved.
Fairtrade farmers producing Standard Quality beans and Premium Quality beans.
Independent cocoa farmers producing their Standard Quality beans and their (independent) Premium Quality beans.
The Fairtrade Chocolate Company, buying the beans from the Fairtrade farmers to produce their bars of chocolate.
The big chocolate company, buying the beans from the independent farmers, producing their chocolate bars.
The supermarkets are trying to sell the imported chocolate bars; are they selling enough or have they simply bought too much stock? And are they receiving the price they ask for?
The shoppers / consumers are buying, testing and discussing the quality of chocolate available in the supermarkets.

Fairtrade Farmers continued to earn 5p for their brown cocoa beans.
This all is a real challenge!
It is time to listen to the journalists sharing their observations.
